Every measure beat its target: 96.6% of the year in range against a goal of 70%, and lows at 1.7% against a 4% limit.
The first quarter held the start: the pen and the first two months of the patch, at 74.7% tight range and 5.3% above 180.
Every quarter after held about 90% tight range and under 1% above 180.
Lows rose each quarter: 0.9%, 1.3%, 2.0% and 2.5% below 70.
Tight range rose from 24% to about 90% by January and held there

Pen to patch: 2-unit clicks, about six a day, replaced 3–5 unit shots. Time above 180 fell from 15.6% to 0.8%.
Patch to pod: the pod's automated basal brought the mean to 107 mg/dL. Lows rose to 2.5%, and the switch landed in peak training season, so its first winter will show how much is the pod itself.
Time in range by the insulin I used that day
Sorting every day by what actually delivered my rapid insulin separates the pen breaks from the patch. The patch had the fewest lows and the tightest nights; pen days had the most lows for their range. Night is 9:30 pm to 6 am.

Patch days were the steadiest: 1.4% below 70 and almost no time below 54, with 94% of night time in tight range.
MDI pen 2025 and MDI pen between patches are very different: the first 23 days on the pen ran 55.3% tight range. The 22 pen days between patches, mostly July and August, matched the patch on tight range (87.9%) but ran 2.9% below 70 and 0.4% below 54, the most lows of any setup.
The pod's nights run lower: 92.0% of night time in tight range, close to the patch, but 2.6% below 70 at night against 1.8% on the patch.

Patterns
A typical day
Every reading of the year, stacked by the hour of day it was taken.
The day stays between 99 and 119 mg/dL at the middle
Glucose by hour of day, mg/dL
Dexcom via Clarity exports · the green band is tight range, 70–140
Nights are the flattest: the middle sits at 99–109 from midnight to 6 am.
Mornings run highest: 117–119 from 7 to 10 am, after breakfast.
Evenings sit lowest outside the night: 104–107 from 5 to 10 pm, the same hours the lows cluster in.
When insulin goes in
Every rapid-acting dose of the year by the hour it went in: pen, patch, Afrezza and Omnipod 5 boluses together.
Most doses go in at 6 pm, then noon, 5 pm and 7 am
Rapid-acting doses by hour of day
Dexcom app logs (pen, patch, Afrezza) and Glooko (pod boluses) · Lantus and the pod's automated basal not included · shaded: night, 9:30 pm – 6 am
Dinner is the busiest stretch: 5 to 7 pm holds 22% of all doses, with 6 pm alone at 9%.
Lunch and breakfast follow: noon is the single busiest midday hour (7%), and 7–8 am carries breakfast (13% together).
Almost nothing after bedtime, except early morning: 10 and 11 pm together hold 2%. A small rise at 4–5 am (133 doses, about 40% of them pod boluses) looks like early-morning corrections.
Most lows follow rapid insulin. Night lows mostly don't, which points at Lantus and long days of walking instead.

Lantus
With real doses in, Lantus turns out to be lowest in winter and highest in summer, the opposite of the plan to take more in the cold and less with heavy training.
About 8 u in winter, 13 u in summer
Logged Lantus by month
312 doses logged in the Dexcom app
Bigger Lantus doses were followed by more lows
Average minutes below 70 in the 24 hours after a dose, all 312 logged doses
Doses grouped by size · doses with a full 24 hours of CGM after them
Lows climb with the dose: 17 minutes below 70 in the next 24 hours after 7–9 u, 19 after 10–11 u, 27 after 12–13 u and 38 after 14–15 u.
Lantus moved from evening to morning in March: about 8 pm from November through February, about 8 am from March on. The higher doses and rising lows came after the switch.
It holds inside one season: from April to August the same steps show, so it isn't only winter against summer.
The pod changed it: since late August, Lantus dropped to 8–11 u with the pod's automated basal sharing the job.
For my care team: my summer Lantus ran 12–15 u while I was training the most. Should Lantus come down on heavy training days, and how should it split the job with the pod's automated basal?
Exercise
Strava holds 399 Apple Watch workouts from Jan 6 to Oct 18, 2026, and every one is a walk, apart from 3 bike rides and an elliptical session. No runs are recorded, so this section tests walking. From 4 miles a day up, lows rise that night, not the following days.
From 4 miles up, nights run lower; the next day is back to normal, with no extra lows
Average minutes below 70 mg/dL after a day's logged walking, Jan 6 – Jun 21, 2026
Strava walks + Dexcom G7 via Clarity · rest of that day = after the last walk until 9:30 pm · that night = 9:30 pm–6 am · next day = 6 am–9:30 pm · Jan 6 – Jun 21, while the Watch logged walks nearly every day
During walks: 13% of walks of a mile or more had a reading below 70 during the walk or in the hour after, and the share didn't grow with distance.
4 miles is where nights change: after 4 or more miles, that night averaged 11.9 minutes below 70 against 6.2 after shorter days, and 40% of those nights had a low against 30%.
The lows come between 9 pm and 2 am: on 4+ mile days the extra low time spreads across that stretch, highest around 9 pm and midnight.
No next-day or day-after jump: the next day averaged 10–14 minutes below 70 whatever the distance, and two days out showed no rise either.
Small and incomplete: only 12 days of 8+ miles, so 8+ isn't clearly worse than 4–8. Strava logging thinned to a few workouts a month from July to October, right when lows rose most. Runs, if I record them elsewhere, aren't in this data.
Next step: if my runs live in another app or aren't recorded as runs on the Watch, getting them in is the missing piece. Wearing the Watch on summer and fall training days would let the weekly report test the run-day pattern directly.

Patch clicks = logged patch units ÷ 2. Pods: 14 changes recorded in Glooko, plus 5 counted at 72 hours each where a recorded pod ran longer (3 in September, 2 in October). October 2026 runs to Oct 18.
How this was counted
Sources and rules
Glucose: Dexcom G7 via Clarity exports, Oct 21, 2025 – Oct 18, 2026, one reading kept per 4 minutes. No insulin was captured Oct 21–29, 2025; those days count as MDI pen.
Pen and patch: rapid Humalog logged in the Dexcom app. Steady 2-unit runs of 48 hours or more are the patch; half units and short runs are the pen. Each 1.7 u priming click is a new patch.
Pods: Glooko's pod-change records in Nightscout; gaps over 72 hours count as more 72-hour pods. Boluses are Glooko's; the automated basal isn't counted.
Lantus: 312 doses logged in the Dexcom app; a 90 u entry on May 16 was a slip and is left out, and 2 u "long-acting" entries were patch clicks.
Exercise: Strava workouts (Apple Watch), Jan 6 – Oct 18, 2026; device days sorted by the rapid insulin logged that day.
Night: 9:30 pm to 6 am, matching my bedtime. Afrezza is 4 units a puff, logged as 2.6 or 2.7 u so it can be found. Pod boluses by hour come from Glooko via Nightscout.
All the rows: every day, walk, dose, patch and pod is in the companion workbook, T1D year one data.
Patterns, not advice: these are associations in my own data to talk through with my care team.
