Rebar Trellises

10' rebar posts driven 3' into the ground, tight against the bed edging, tied together with 4' rebar rails and badger clips. For single-stem tomatoes there's one rail, across the top, and each plant, one per foot, winds up a line of string hung from it. The rails are all straight.

Build Sequence
  1. Mark posts every 4'-0" along the inside face of the bed edging.
  2. Drive each 10' post 3'-0" deep, tight against the edging. The edging holds the row straight and the posts plumb, so the trellis stays lined up and looks kept.
  3. Clip the top rails at 6'-6" on the bed side of the posts, each running post to post with no overhang. Where two rails meet at a post, each gets its own clip.
  4. Plant one tomato per foot along the row. Tie one string per plant to the top rail, prune each to a single stem, and wind the stem up the string as it grows.
